New Balance Celebrate Grey Day With a Month of Releases

Since the beginning of their premium running line in the 1980s, have become synonymous with the colour grey. As intentional as all their other performance features, the shade hit the asphalt with the as a solution for runners who didn’t want to get their sneakers dirty. However, it wasn’t long before people started to realise that grey sneakers actually looked good anywhere, and the cloudy-toned colourway quickly found its way into NB’s core colour palette.
Fast forward to 2024, and you’d be hard-pressed to find a NB style that grey hasn’t yet graced. Some grey NB styles have gone on to become serious sneaker grails, while others are regarded as cultural icons, known for gracing the feet of Silicon Valley CEOs and sneakerheads alike. The colour grey still features throughout NB’s core collection, but over the past few years, NB have taken their relationship with grey a shade further with a celebratory event called each May. This year, the celebrations have kicked off with the launch of their ‘Grey Shop’, but there’s still a flurry of limited-edition drops to come over the rest of the month. New Balance WRPD Runner
Charlotte Lee’s is one of the first models to get a Grey Day run-out this year. The heavily sculpted silhouette launched in 2022 with a GR debut taking on ‘Sea Salt’ tones, while an Auralee collaboration saw the model arrive in shades of navy and beige. For Grey Day, the pair takes on a muted, stone-inspired hue, with light grey suede coming offset with cream mesh underlays and matching sole units.

The 2000s-inspired will also be joining the Grey Day line-up. The Y2K-style sneaker has seen its fair share of silver-toned editions, but this particular pair takes its cues from the WRPD Runner and also opts for a more minimalist look. Creamy engineered mesh and light grey panels make up the upper, while white soles and ‘N’ logos add pops of contrast.

Taking ‘Grey Day’ back to its running roots, NB are also rolling out a limited edition version of the . The brand’s modern-day running shoe has received a luxe update with suede detailing and a sleek tonal look.

Extending the ‘Grey Day’ theme to more of their collection, NB are also teaming up with premium running brand District Vision for an additional run-ready drop. This time, the focus is on their race day product, the . While images are still yet to be revealed, the shoe will launch alongside a range of grey-toned apparel.

The mid-cut silhouette has been given a premium update in grey suede and features hints of tan suede on the heels and tonal cream-coloured sole units. Underfoot it comes packed with FuelCell cushioning and Energy Arc technology – a reminder that although NB’s running heritage may inspire Grey Day, it extends to the brand’s wider performance ethos.

Finally, the brand has also announced the arrival of the Fresh Foam Audazo Pro In V6, which is set to debut alongside a couple of other greyed-out football styles. The shoe takes on a tonal make-up, allowing its stitched forefoot detailing to shine, and it is designed to be a hybrid futsal and skate shoe.
