New Balance Just Landed a $17 Million Military Deal
In 1941, the Berry Amendment passed in the US. The amendment required the Department of Defense to favour high-quality, American-made gear for its military personnel. Boston-based – who have long been vocal about the DoD's seeming indifference to the Berry Amendment – have just been awarded a $17.3 million contract to supply athletic footwear to recruits.
In supplying such footwear, New Balance aren't completely flying blind; in 2014, the brand released a prototype of a military-style sneaker, the American-made 950v2. Now, with ample funds to work with, innovation for new designs and technology seems endless. Stay tuned to see what they come up with!
