received a welcome return this year when it was plucked from the archives to lace up another win for the Boston brand. It has since seen celebrity co-signs from rapper Dave and colabs from and ; however, it’s now going back to its quintessential NB form with this ‘Rain Cloud’ pack that has stormed through JD Sports.

The NB1000 was as a running shoe in the late 90s and was geared to support overpronators, but the shoe’s layered look and sleek aesthetic suggest it was always destined for more. While New Balance have built their success on doing their own thing and not succumbing to trends, that doesn’t mean their designs didn’t hit the markets of the time, and the 1000 certainly fit in perfectly with the other youth-centric styles of the 90s era. Now with the Y2K trend raging across feeds, it offers an alternative to the brand’s typically meshy styles – it’s a little louder and a little unexpected, but its recent colab run means it's backed up with some serious cultural cachet.

A series of general releases has repeatedly demonstrated how well the shoe’s wavy panelled construction takes colour, but the ‘Rain Cloud’ pack further proves its versatility as three different arrangements take the spotlight in celebration of NB’s stormy colour palette. Kicking things off is a deep charcoal pair, which features silver accents and dark grey sole units. On the other end of the spectrum, an almost-white pair gives way to light grey mesh panelling. Finally, a steel grey version provides a comfortable middle ground, featuring a cream-toned midsole that dials up the contrast.

On top of looking good, the New Balance M1000 is plenty comfortable, coming fully equipped with ABZORB cushioning and Dual-Density C-Cap midsoles. It’s no longer a runner by today’s standards, but it’ll keep things cushy for miles beyond your errand run. The three ‘Rain Cloud’ colourways are available now at JD Sports, so hit the link below to secure your size today.
