The has had a fast rise to the top following its resurrection back in 2020 and is now beginning to rival its made in USA and UK counterparts. Originally created in the 2010s and marketed as a luxury running silhouette, the 2002’s high RRP meant that only a select few could afford them, eventually fading into obscurity.
Two years ago, New Balance was , digging into their archive and updating the 2002 (and changing the name to 2002R!) to reflect the changes. Ever since, it’s been a frontrunner in the New Balance GR catalogue and has even experienced a bunch of high-profile collaborations.
Consisting of three colourways, we first of the 'Wonderland Pack’ pack back in May, where it received a release in June via select retailers across Asia and the EU. Interestingly, the pack actually designed by Yue Wu, the same individual responsible for the ‘Protection Pack’. He also hinted in an Instagram post that these were a nod to a pair of hiking boots from Animal Crossing! Looking at the shoe and the inspiration is clear, the upper boasts a sturdy mostly-leather construction with metal and D-Ring eyestays. The completely ‘murdered-out’ look exudes security guard vibes.
