New Balance Plunge the 920 into Triple Black
After in the middle of 2020, the has quickly established itself as a viable alternative for in-the-know sneakerheads. Considered an intriguing addition to the NB canon due to its mongrel lineage and black sheep appearance, the latter characteristic takes a literal turn with this latest ‘Triple Black’.
By no means is the mongrel descriptor a slight on the 920’s character. NB’s deep history and long-running shoe series means a very pure product has been distilled over the years, somewhat at the expense of creative mutation. The 920 is an anomaly to this. While cut from the same cloth (and premium leather) as its three- and four-digit cousins at the Flimby factory in England, it doesn’t really share any common traits. Even the ENCAP midsole – while clearly identified as that of the – is technically from the US, so there’s no obvious explanation for why it’s emerged on the other side of the world.
In any case, it makes for quite an interesting design that looks like it could have been born from the immediate aftermath of the Y2K bug – had it happened... this 920 is all-black, so get a good look above before hitting up BSTN to cop.
