New Balance Reissue the 990 As Part of the 'MADE Version Series'
are brewing up something big (aren't they always?) with the series, as the first four generations of the are set to return with some overt markings. Straightforwardly known as the 990 'MADE Version Series', these OG grey colourways are embellished with some sharp red details.
The original 990 from 1982 returns in all its grey glory, following occasional rounds of restocking in recent years. NB are always pretty consistent with creating accurate retros, and that's no different here with the suede and mesh combo. Even the external MCD (Motion Control Device) is a tasteful shade of very light cream. Where the design deviates is the red New Balance heel tab stitching, woven tongue label, and Levi's-esque red 'Version 1' tab stitched to the lateral mid panel. The insoles and supplied dust bag also bear graphics referencing NB HQ's clock tower, in a further nod to the brand's heritage.
It's set to be an exciting rest of 2021 for New Balance releases, as the 990v2, v3 and v4 will return bearing similar markings to the v1 under this 'MADE Version Series'. The New Balance 990 will release globally at select retailers on June 17, and the rest of the pack will trickle in over the following months.
