New Nike Air Force 1 Colourway Reissues ‘Red October’
Cast your mind back to February 10, 2014, when shock dropped the Air Yeezy 2 ‘Red October’. It was neither the beginning nor end of the all-red sneaker moment, but it set a precedent for straightforward colour-blocking across all brands big and small. Not many shoes in recent memory can claim having so much influence, such that previously pragmatic descriptors like ‘all-red’ or the somewhat red-uctive ‘Triple Red’ have been replaced with the very vague, yet instantly recognised ‘Red October’ (though it might mean something else if you’re into submarine movies). And yet, seven years on, the colour designers at Beaverton are bringing back the monochromatic rouge with the , a model with a historical predisposition to single-colour executions.
Had these dropped back in the day, there’d have been pandemonium. In fact, a handful of red Uptowns have come out since the Yeezy 2, such as a similar from 2015, aka the ‘Post-Yeezus (PY)’ era, and there was an all-red AF-1 Mid from late 2016, which now fetches big bucks on the secondary market. Anything else pales in comparison as an ersatz iD copy, custom paint job, or a cheesy counterfeit.
The days of faking that funk are no more. This Air Force 1, officially known as the ‘University Red’, is out now directly from Nike’s webstore – and they’re selling very quickly.
