New Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 34 Colours Available On Nikeid
are celebrating famed marathon runner and Olympic champion Joan Benoit Samuelson with four new 34 colourways. Available on NIKEiD, each colour is rendered over a floral graphic in reference to the early days of Samuelson’s career, when the athlete was so self-conscious about running in public that she’d pretend to be looking at flowers whenever cars passed. It seems odd in retrospect, but Benoit's era was one less than enthused about women in sports.
In 1972, when Kathrine Switzer became the first female to compete in the Boston marathon (withstanding a physical attack by a race offical a few miles in), her bravery paved the way for the Olympics' first female marathon in 1984. In the inaugural event, Samuelson blew the competition out of the water, running a time – 2:24:52 – that would have seen her barely pipped for a medal in 2016’s Games. Her achievement set running ablaze among women, and opened up the sport enormously, not to mention significantly advancing women's standing in the sporting arena.
Bold and beautiful, this bouquet of Air Pegasus is ideal for trailblazers, dreamers, the fit, the fearless and the hopeful.
