are celebrating the 40th anniversary of the by focusing on the shoe’s spiritual home of New York City and the diverse communities that form its population. One area of focus is Little Accra, an area in the Bronx near 167th Street that is home to a large Ghanaian diaspora. This enclave and its culture inspires this new AF-1 colourway and its details.
‘Premium’ is a term that’s thrown around with abandon in the sneakersphere these days, but these Uptowns wholeheartedly deserve the descriptor. Cream leather inserts are met by satiny red nylon overlays, which are trimmed with intricate gold embroidery on both the edges and adjacent panels. This beautiful treatment borders the mid panel, which has a contrasting orange Swoosh sewn on top. Above that is a rich terracotta brown eyestay panel.
The tongue and heel panels make clear nods to Little Accra, and this is furthered by the graphic insoles that read ‘Sharing Stories’ and ‘Building Community’. Elevated finishing touches include waxed laces and golden metal capped aglets, similarly gilt dubrae and plush lining.
Stay tuned for release details of these inspired AF-1s, which are due to drop this year. They might end up being a Stateside exclusive.
