Concepts Officially Announce Nike Air Max 1 ‘Mellow’ Collaboration
There was plenty of speculation when leaked images of new collaborations first emerged. The Deon Point-helmed boutique has finally officially announced this highly detailed collection and also cleared up any back stories that the rest of the sneakersphere has been guessing.
Previous reportage suggested these AM1s may be inspired by Woodstock and music festivals of the 1960s. That is partially true, however, Concepts tacitly refer to ‘the 1969 summer music series that took place in Harlem’, an event better known as ‘Black Woodstock’. Besides that historical correction, the rest of the concept is indeed informed by flower power, rock music and plenty of frayed edges. Furthermore, the official nickname for the collaboration is ‘Mellow’, which is in reference to the peace-loving spirit of the festivals these shoes are based on.
‘When we decided to work on the Air Max 1, a personal favorite, we wanted to fully honor the irreverent spirit of Nike from its origins in the ‘60s up to today,’ said Point.
The Concepts x Nike Air Max 1 ‘Mellow’ will release exclusively at Concepts on March 5. That will unlikely be the only drop as previously sighted official Nike imagery all but confirms there will be another chance to cop via the Swoosh.
