Nike Show Off the Muscular Air Max 95 ‘Anatomy of Air’
The may be one of the greatest sneaker designs of all time, but its origin story is occasionally obscured by its dazzling colourways and large following. Nike are looking to rectify that by embellishing this new edition that lifts the lid on one of the primary inspirations behind its distinct look. Nicknamed the ‘Anatomy of Air’, this surgical pair is not for the faint-hearted.
As the goes, AM95 creator Sergio Lozano based the shoe’s layered upper on the muscular structure of the human body, which is expressed here by the fleshy tones of blood red fading to skin pink. The grey and beige hits are sort of reminiscent of the surrounding tendon, cartilage and related sinew. Furthermore, there are dozens of rows of stitching across each panel – spare a thought for whoever was behind the sewing machine making these.
The biological concept continues on the outsole ‘spine’ that depicts more muscle structure, and behind the tongue reads ‘Anatomy of Air’, making very clear what this colourway is inspired by. Funnily enough, the Air Max sole takes a relative backseat in this execution, sitting tonally with the bone coloured midsole.
The Air Max 95 ‘Anatomy of Air’ is already available from select boutiques globally, but it will see an official Nike SNKRS release on July 28.
