The Goats of TPC Sawgrass Get the Nod on Nike Air Max Plus Golf 'Player's Championship'

After turning 25 in 2023, it seems the has been having a quarter life crisis – a golf quarter life crisis to be exact. Infamous for its tough exterior and bad boy street cred, the TN has recently flipped to the side of khakis, polo shirts and a good walk spoiled. First arriving in slick and colourways followed by icons and the Golf TN is now looking for a hole in one with the ‘Player’s Championship’ iteration.
An annual stop on the PGA Tour, The Players Championship tees off on March 11 at the TPC Sawgrass course. The design of the Air Max Plus earns its colourway name, with the tournament’s logo on the royal blue insole and a little brown goat standing on the Nike Golf tongue branding. That’s not all the goat references though, as the heel is also adorned in a strip of brown pony hair (close enough to goat right?). These features point to the early heroes of the TPC course, as when the course was being developed in the late 70s/early 80s, goats were used as free labour to eat through the massive amounts of shrubs, weeds, vines and grass that needed to be cleared for the construction. These goats later became celebrities once the course opened, with one getting stuck on a roof, another narrowly escaping being eaten by an alligator, and one found chilling in the grill room. Unfortunately, they were soon moved off the course, but they’ve clearly never been forgotten!
The Nike Air Max Plus Golf ‘Player’s Championship’ is set to drop on March 10 via Nike.
