fans will rejoice at the news that the circa 2001 ‘Scarab’ colourway is being retroed for the very first time. This edition has been coveted and traded for over 20 years by diehard collectors, who have mostly been restricted to displaying pairs with cracked and unwearable midsoles. As the official shots above depict, the 2022 bringback is effectively an exact remake of the original.
The 1998 AMP, aka TN, was characterised by gradient uppers and translucent TPU ribbing, among other features. The latter element is reprised on the ‘Scarab’, but the remainder of the upper takes on an iridescent metallic shade of ‘Metallic Copper’ (as it’s officially known as in 2022) that shifts to oxidised green depending on the angle. This striking visual effect would bear similarities to other Nike models of the early 2000s era – namely the – but the ‘Scarab’ is its own entity. The remaining elements like the toe bumper and Air units are blacked out and rendered tonally in gold respectively to complete the brooding aesthetic of the colourway.
This Nike TN grail will make its return later this year. Collectors and newcomers alike can finally wear objectively one of the model’s best and most unique colourways.
