The NBA All-Star Weekend 2023 edition heads to Utah this weekend, which means are primed to release some commemorative sneakers to mark the occasion. Previous collections have taken the basketball inspiration fairly literally, but this year’s pairs express considerably more abstract ideas that require some contextual thinking.
Utah is located in the western part of America and its geography features some very sizeable salt flats. It’s the cracked and arid surface of this terrain that shows up on the off-white uppers of this Nike pack, which consists of the , and .
The AF-1 and Dunk exhibit the effect by using alternating panels of beige suede and white textile on their uppers, saving room for a dramatic cracked leather Swoosh. They also sit atop aged midsoles – a hypothetical representation of what the shoes might look like if they trudged through the salt flats. Meanwhile, the Blazer takes the theme to another level with its all-over cracked leather finish and grey midsole.
As All-Star Weekend is happening this weekend, the accompanying collection of shoes will release at selected Nike retailers throughout the week, with all pairs expected to be available by February 18.
