Nike Dunk Low 'Dunks Not Dead' Coming Soon: Is This a Statement?

Nike Dunk Low 'Dunks Not Dead'

The is dead. Many a think piece has been written asserting this sentiment. The reality? While perhaps no longer at the centre of the hype wheel, the dunk is alive and well. At least according to Beaverton. The Swoosh continues to release GR colourways in droves and plenty of collaborations on the dunk are forthcoming this year. For good reason: visit your local mall or supermarket and you’re bound to spot at least a few pairs. A new Dunk colourway has surfaced. Dubbed the ‘Dunks Not Dead’, it certainly raises eyebrows. Let’s unpack it.

Make no mistake, this is certainly not providing commentary on sneaker internet discourse. It’s not general practice for the company to do so. Rather it nods to the Dunk’s rebel spirit. Throughout its history, the Dunk broke the mould. The ‘Be True To Your School’ Dunks came at a time when boldly coloured basketball shoes were prevalent. The SB Dunks of the 2000s explored pop culture references and collaboration previously not seen in the industry, and most recently in the early 2020s, it returned and started a revolution. The upcoming ‘Dunks Not Dead’ embraces all of this with an edgy deep olive and black colourway set off by pink hits. The material is a mix of leather, nylon and rough-cut canvas. The sneaker also features removable velcro swooshes and tongue patches as well as pin badges. One of which the shoe draws its name from, as it reads ‘Dunks Not Dead’. Do you agree?

This punk ethos-inspired Dunk does not have a firm release date yet, but it is expected sometime in early 2025. As always, keep it right here for more.
