Release Date: Nike ISPA Link ‘Black’
The ISPA team (Improvise; Scavenge; Protect; Adapt) continue to expand their lineup of highly technical, eco-conscious sneakers, the latest Link model designed to be completely recyclable.
Focusing on Nike’s circular design vision – a closed-loop system that yields no waste – the ISPA Link revolves around the notion of ‘disassembly’.
Featuring three interlocking modules connected without glue, the model is manufactured in a way that allows the wearer to recycle components at Swoosh stores. The midsoles are made up of pegs that slot into openings engineered into the upper, the deconstructed design taking just eight minutes to assemble – a fraction of the time it takes to manufacture traditional sneakers.
The Flyknit uppers are derived from 100 per cent recycled polyester, while the TPU cages utilise 20 per cent recycled materials.
‘It really is a case of form following function,’ says Darryl Matthews, VP, Catalyst Footwear Product Design. ‘Our hope is that these ideas and aesthetics become normalised, accelerating our ability to imagine how shoes will continue to evolve in the future.’
Look for the Nike ISPA Link ‘Black’ to release on June 22. The retail price tag is set at $225.
