Nike Reveal the LeBron 17
previously the during a World Headquarters visit in Beaverton back in June of 2019, and now James and the Swoosh have officially revealed the new signature silhouette.
Designed by Jason Petrie, the new silhouette is chock full of tech – both old and new. While both Zoom and Max Air are featured here, the 17 changes things up a bit by employing the units in an all-new setup. The heel, for example, features the most volume of any Max Air unit to ever grace the LeBron line, while two individual Zoom pods cushion the forefoot on the lateral and medial sides.
The upper has also evolved from the Battleknit 2.0 to introduce a brand new technology: Knitposite. Combining lightweight Flyknit with heat-moulded yarns, the new upper offers more structure and allows for a bevy of unique colour combos. It's also more durable and stretch-resistant than its predecessor.
Last but not least, the storytelling features have been moved to the tongue with the likes of LeBron's various logos and symbols all appearing there. 'LeBron wanted a more overt tongue for the shoe, which opens up the opportunity for personal storytelling', explains Petrie. 'There are other micro details, too. Making the topline jagged was our way of stepping into the crown of the king. Also, there's a woven label on the medial side that has the inspiration for the colourway. It's almost like a key to the shoe.'
Take an in-depth look at the LeBron 17 above, and stay tuned for concrete release info on each of the initial colourways.
A launch is slated for September 27.
