Nike Pack the ‘Space Hippie’ Collection with Space Junk
When it comes to sustainable practices in the fashion industry, are at the forefront of innovation. And the ‘Space Hippie’ collection is the latest to show the fruits of their efforts.
The four-strong drop utilises Nike’s own ‘space junk’, which sees scrap material from the production process reformed into usable materials. From the upper’s ‘Space Waste Yarn’ that is made from 100 per cent recycled material, to the sole formed with recycled ZoomX cushioning and ‘Crater Foam’ that reduces the use of virgin materials, Nike’s alchemy is on full show.
Taking it even further, every step of the production process was chosen with environmental considerations in mind, resulting in the lowest carbon footprint scores for any Nike footwear.
Nike’s Chief Designer Officer, John Hoke, says of the collection: ‘I’d say Space Hippie attacks the villain of trash. It’s changed the way we look at materials, it’s changed the way that we look at the aesthetics of our product. It’s changed how we approach putting product together.’
The Space Hippie 01, 02, 03 and 04 will drop via SNKRS and SNEAKRS later this year, so we’ll keep you updated.
