Update: Nike Retro the ACG Air Mowabb for Its 30th Anniversary
The are indeed true: have brought back the for its 30th anniversary! first released in 1991, followed by a handful of retros, homages and collaborations over the years that have kept the Mowabb living rent-free in many sneakerheads’ minds. After a six-year wait since the last OG retro release, the ‘Rattan Birch’ tan, blue and orange is ready to return within days. And that’s not all: the ‘Gravity Purple’ colourway will be reprised for the first time ever!
Given the fact that the Air Mowabb has been reissued a number of times now, long-time sneakerheads are usually pretty perceptive of any deviations to the OG. For the 2021 retro, one of the most obvious details is the conspicuous presence of the mini Swoosh on the lateral toe bumper – it was never used on the previous releases, nor the ’91 OG. The most logical explanation for this is that Nike have used the same upper pattern as the , which was the last time the Air Mowabb featured.
Elsewhere appears quite accurate to the previous releases, with the ‘Rattan Birch’ retaining key features like the Huarache bootie, speckled sole, and generously perforated leather. While the ‘Gravity Purple’ – technically taken from the circa 1992 ACG Air Mowabb Plus – is a tonal suede and nubuck affair.
