Nike To Retro Air Huarache ‘Escape’ From 2003
are set to bring back a classic colourway from its early-2000s golden era, in the form of the ‘Escape’. For OG collectors and fans of the Huarache, the news of this return is a welcome surprise.
The Air Huarache ‘Escape’ eschewed the model’s original intentions as a running shoe, and instead reimagined it in outdoorsy palettes of tan, brown and blue. This was not a new practice for the Hua, as the leather, suede and nubuck LE editions like the ‘Slate’ and ‘Praline’ used similar prescient GORPcore shades almost 30 years ago during the model’s debut run. What sets the ‘Escape’ apart is its generous usage of nubuck across its toe box and eyestays, while neoprene stretches across the tongue and internal bootie.
Eagle-eyed Hua heads will notice that this retro uses the new upper and midsole pattern that’s . This may be a case of revisionist history but, seeing as the 2003 ‘Escape’ used the retro (i.e. somewhat inaccurate) design, this could in fact be an improvement. It also looks like the insole graphics will be the original Nike International logos, rather than the Asian characters of the 2003 ‘Escape’.
The Nike Air Huarache ‘Escape’ retro will release at retailers like END. on April 16.
