Nike Unexpectedly Retro the Air Flight Lite II from 1992
While tend to lean on particular strong sellers from their basketball back catalogue, they do occasionally cater for the nostalgic sneakerheads out there. Exhibit A: the II has suddenly returned to modern rotations after almost 30 years laying dormant.
The Air Flight Lite II first released in 1992, where it reached an unlikely peak as the shoe of choice for some members of Barcelona's Dream Team. As an important entry in Nike Basketball’s Flight series, this model prioritised low weight and speedy movements. As such, the perforated leather uppers, heavily scooped ankle collar and relatively sleek Air-cushioned midsoles make a lot of sense for more nimble players. This 2021 retro revives its OG colourway – though there’s not really much colour going on. It’s a simple white and black colourway with patterned lining to add subtle visual pop.
Technically speaking, this is the mid-cut edition as used in Spain, but there is a high-top version too like its predecessor. Perhaps the return of the Mid is a glimmer of hope that its taller sibling comes back too, along with some more colourways. The Nike Air Flight Lite II retro is available now directly from Nike.
