Nina Chanel Abney’s Air Jordan 2 Low is Squeaky Clean
Coinciding with its is Nina Chanel Abney’s incoming Low collaboration, which has just had official images surface overnight. A stripped-back antithesis to the original indulgence of the original model – not to mention a recent run of audacious colabs by other parties – this clean white and green redo is a refreshing sight to see.
The original AJ2 was a big, boot-like Italian-made shoe with bold white and black palettes. Abney’s effort is markedly much more restrained, opting for a mostly tonal white colourway with the only major colour accent coming via the solid green heel counter, which appears to be wrapped in smooth leather. Another notable modification to these shoes is the lack of external eyelet loops, which are replaced by plain holes, resulting in a cleaner look. These deviations don’t mean the artist doesn’t pay her respects to the OG however; the AJ2’s pebbled lizard skin texture is retained on the tongue and rear quarter. Packaged with the colab is a little hangtag of a chromed picture frame depicting Michael Jordan taking a jump shot against two opponents, but finished in Abney’s unique style.
Rumours indicate the Nina Chanel Abney x Air Jordan 2 collaboration is slated for a July 8 release.
