The notwoways lacuna Slams in ‘Onyx’
UK indie brand have grown a cult following for their distinct sneaker designs since their 2020 launch. Their product assortment continues to grow this year with the recent addition of the model, and now they aim for the new lacuna to be their ‘hopefully most sought-after sneaker to date.’
According to ntw, the word ‘lacuna’ means ‘an unfilled space, a gap, and like a black hole’. The latter descriptor applies to this blacked-out palette that is derived from the brand’s original ‘moonless’ model from 2020. This somewhat daring move for a brand that has been associated with blue and orange is sure to divide opinions – but their loyal following and quick sell-through rates suggest customers will be satisfied.
On the design front, the modular nature of ntw designs means there are elements borrowed and modified from its predecessors. The tooling and midsole is carried over from the syzygy, which tightens up the overall proportions. There’s a bit of trail flavour in the monochromatic mix delivered via the lugged tread and layered panelling. It’s up top where a lot of the premium features are hidden behind the black shades: nubuck meets suede meets perforated leather for all sorts of textural delights, and thick rope laces lock everything down.
The notwoways lacuna releases on the ntw website on May 9 at 6PM BST. They will be available from size UK 3 to 13.
