Official Images: The Nike Air Griffey Max 1 ‘Fresh Water’
After spread earlier this year about a return to the scene in 2021, official images of the ‘Fresh Water’ retro have now emerged. The popular re-release will form part of the 25th anniversary celebrations for the distinctly 90s build.
The Air Griffey Max 1 was originally designed in 1996 for baseball Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. Inspired by the cleats Griffey Jr. wore on the baseball diamond, the silhouette quickly became a popular cross training option when that whole phenomenon was taking hold of the globe in the mid- to late-90s.
Despite the preferred moniker for this colourway, the design is actually mostly black and white, with the ‘Fresh Water’ hue hitting the tongue and heel tabs, inside the visible Air unit, and on parts of the outsole. Elsewhere, there are minor touches of ‘Varsity Red’ for just a little more contrast.
Pairs of the Nike Air Griffey Max 1 ‘Fresh Water’ are expected to land next year in spring for the northern hemisphere, so autumn for those below the equator. Keep that in the back of your mind for your 2021 sneaker copping plans.
