On-Foot: The Nike Air Huarache ‘Escape’
Originally designed by sneaker mastermind Tinker Hatfield, the continues its current 2021 resurgence, the cult silhouette recently stepping back into the limelight to celebrate its 30th anniversary.
First released in 1991, the Huarache famously stripped the Swoosh to let the technical runner do the work. Marketed as a trailblazing running shoe, the Huarache quickly stepped off the track to become a lifestyle silhouette, the idiosyncratic, minimalist design originally inspired by the neoprene booties in water skiing boots.
The Huarache is now seeing another retro from the early 2000s, the ‘Escape’ colourway first debuting in 2003.
Serving up the neoprene base with green and grey, the earthy brown leather overlays provide durability for the Huarache. Of course featuring the classic supportive ankle strap (this time rendered in deep grey), we also have a classic white midsole and black outsole giving the colourway a classic feel.
Look for the Nike Air Huarache ‘Escape’ to land on April 16.
