Are You Ready For the Return of the Nike SB P-Rod 1?
With a ten-pack of signature shoes under his belt at it’s fair to say American skater is an elite figure among skate-adjacent sneakerheads. Starting his career as a fearless teen in the 1990s, P-Rod’s ascendency mirrored the success of Nike SB in the 2000s. The Northridge local then picked up his own signature shoe, the Zoom Air Paul Rodriguez, in 2005.
Now 39 years old, Paul Rodriguez is linking up with Nike SB once again to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Nike SB with reporting a potential large-scale reissue of the silhouette in 2025.
Of course, it wouldn’t be the first time Nike paid homage to P-Rod’s prodigious sneaker career with the Swoosh. Back in 2015, Nike launched the first-ever retro of P-Rod’s debut signature shoe – a black and white version of the SB P-Rod 1 celebrating the 10th anniversary of the model. Since then, the model has surged once again culturally – especially after rap superstar took a liking to the silhouette. With the secondary market for P-Rod’s vast catalogue humming along, it’s no doubt an auspicious time for Nike SB to throw their weight behind the athlete, especially given that the heat has died down on the Nike SB Dunk catalogue in recent years (after a startling resurgence). We also wouldn’t be surprised if we saw a boatload of collaborators on the P-Rod 1, although this is merely speculation at this point.
At the time of writing, nothing has been confirmed or denied by the team at Nike SB, but make sure to keep it locked to Sneaker Freaker for updates.
