Reebok Issue the Pump Omni Zone 2 Made Famous by Dee Brown’s ‘No Look’ Dunk
Some of the most pivotal moments in sneaker history have been tied to the NBA Slam Dunk Contest. While many of those events may be connected to a certain player in a #23 jersey, Dee Brown stole the limelight in the 1991 edition of the contest with his famous ‘No Look’ dunk. The Omni Zone 2 was on his feet for that occasion, which catapulted its namesake Pump technology into the global consciousness. Thirty years since that audacious display, the famed model returns for the first time in OG guise.
The has been the go-to basketball reissue for Reebok – the familiar black, white and orange ‘Dee Brown’ signature has been sighted many times before – but in 2021 they went the extra mile to get this retro closer than ever. Notable changes include the higher ankle cut to mirror what Brown wore during that famous 1991 contest, black leather and white mesh uppers, additional rows of toe box perforations, and plush ankle lining that almost resembles corduroy.
There are some deviations from the OG, such as the slightly different Pump branding on the iconic basketball-shaped tongue inflator, and the lack of Hexalite cushioning may feel different to those who owned the ’91 edition. However, overwhelming nostalgia and the feeling of the Pump bladder inflating to provide custom fit should dispel any reservations about retro accuracy.
The Reebok Pump Omni Zone 2 returns on March 6 at Reebok and select retailers like Foot Locker and Champs.
