Release Confirmed: The Nike Air Max BW ‘Persian Violet’ is Back!

Nike are set to have a particularly fruitful next couple of years as many of their beloved 90s models are hitting a big 30th anniversary milestone. Following the triumphant return of the Air Max 90 ‘Infrared’ last year, the next OG in line is the Air Max BW, resplendent in ‘Persian Violet’. And after months of rumours, confirmed official pics, and tribute colourways in tow, a release date has finally been locked in.

It’s been five years since the last OG BW retro, and it left a lot of sneakerheads wanting more. From the above shots, it’s promising to see Nike are trending in the right direction of ensuring historical accuracy. One of the biggest changes is to the enlarged Air unit – meaning this BW lives up to its ‘Big Window’ moniker! Another detail that only the most devoted Airheads will notice is the narrow shoebox that replicates the original from 1991. Even the outsole tread appears to be more defined this time around. Elsewhere, the familiar mixture of black mesh and microfibre, plus contrast white strips and tonal ‘Persian Violet’, is a welcome sight. Let’s just hope they’ve cracked the paint issue plaguing earlier releases – pun intended.
