Release Date Confirmed: The Patta x Nike Air Max 1 'Monarch'

Update: Nike have released detailed official imagery ahead of the imminent release of the Patta x Nike Air Max 1 'Monarch'.

Patta and Nike already have some of the most Grail-status Air Max 1s in history under their collaborative belt – think the '5th Anniversary', 'Purple Denim', 'Cherrywood', and the 'Amsterdam' – but now their scope is set to expand with the Air Max 1 'Monarch', part of a greater 'The Wave' initiative.

The 'Monarch' offers a simple yet effective mix of white, grey and 'Sail', all of which provide a launching pad for a signature burnt orange hue. This orange tone is splashed across the wavy mudguard and the Swoosh, providing a unique pop of flair, and living up to the larger collection's 'The Wave' ethos.

According to a press release from Patta, 'The Wave' collection is all about community empowerment. 'The Wave films and sneaker embellishment are thematic references to the cultural shifts and enduring influence that Patta has had on its greater community and industry,' reads the release. 'As a black-owned, independent business based in Amsterdam for over 17 years, Patta has not only developed a following for its influence in [streetwear] and sportswear, but in seizing an opportunity to create spaces and empower young people through the Patta Running Team ... It is through this spirit and union of purpose and product that the Patta x Nike relationship has evolved, and a new chapter is borne.'

Apart from announcing the shoe's release date, Patta have also premiered a series of short films. Directed by Mahaneela, an artist who worked under Steve McQueen, the films are centred around three guiding principles: creativity, freedom and truth. The first instalment in the series tells the story of a young photographer who conquers his doubters and photographs Skepta and Little Simz.

'Since I started making films and photography, my work has always been about finding ways to show love to people that look like me,' said Mahaneela while discussing the video series. 'Patta [is] a great example of how creativity can manifest into authentic relationships and give back to the people and places we are from.' McQueen himself shared Mahaneela's sentiments: 'I'm proud to be working with Patta and Nike, a Black-owned company who have always been about supporting interesting Black talent, in bringing new emerging voices like Mahaneela to the broader wider public for this exciting collaboration.'

You can expect the Patta x Nike Air Max 1 'Monarch' to release via Nike SNKRS and the Patta webstore on October 8. Select global stockists will follow with a release on October 15. The Patta x Nike Air Max 1 'Noise Aqua' is also set to drop later in the year.
