Release Info: adidas Moves Forward with the All-New 4DFWD

Labelled as the ‘the future of running’ by Alberto Uncini Manganelli, SVP and General Manager of adidas Running, the new silhouette was created with the help of 17 years of athlete data, designed with innovation and sustainability in mind. The 4DFWD has been designed to move runners ‘forward’, making use of a new 3D-printed lattice cushioning. To land on the final design, adidas created five versions of the cushioning, ultimately opting for an updated, bowtie-reminiscent cell. Unlike previous iterations, the 4DFWD’s lattice system (unlocked by Carbon) features 23 per cent more cushioning, while delivering three-times as much forward motion.
Aligning with adidas’ continual efforts to go green, the lattice structures comprise of 39 per cent bio-based material. Initial tests with athletes like Wayde Van Niekerk (current world and Olympic 400m record holder), discovered the peak breaking point (moment when running stress becomes overbearing) was reduced by an average of 15 per cent.
The adidas 4DFWD debuts in a Core Black/Solar Red colourway on May 15, via the adidas CONFIRMED app (sign-ups are open now). A Tokyo Collection release will then follow on July 1, before a global retailer drop on August 12.
