Rick Owens and Converse Have Crafted a New Chuck 70 'DRKSTAR'
To hear tell it, he's a habitual line stepper when it comes to designing footwear. When he first kicked off his partnership with , the designer was dubbed the 'Dark Lord' by his adoring fans – noted that his aim was to 'distort the ubiquitous' on silhouettes like the and the . This ethos has continued to play out on the DRKSTAR Chuck 70 collection, Owens' third offering with the brand.
Consisting of high and low-cut in Owens' signature white and black shades, the collection features what they refer to as 'carefully articulated design exaggerations'. If that description leaves you scratching your head, fear not: it's simply a fancy way of saying that Owens has once again remixed the shape of an iconic Converse sneaker.
Though past collections have featured boxy, blocky toes and supersized midsoles, the DKRSTAR offers up a slightly more tame reinterpretation of the Chuck. Its main piece is a large, rounded toe cap that Owens used on his Ramones sneakers in his DRKSHDW SS14 show. This serves a dual purpose, of course, as the Chuck 70 is also known for its rubberised toe bumper. High and low-top styles alike also boast elongated tongues with large branded hits.
You can expect the Rick Owens x Converse DRKSTAR collection to release via the Converse and Rick Owens webstores on November 16. The shoes will be accompanied by a duo of accessories as well, namely black and pearl baseball caps and special backpacks.
