Rick Owens and Converse Ready Two More TURBOWPN Colourways
and are continuing their mission of 'distorting the ubiquitous' with two new takes on the TURBOWPN. First revealed back in August 2021, the TURBOWPN is a super-sized take on the , a popular hoop sneaker from the late 1980s that was worn by superstars Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. However, the TURBOWPN's beefed-up and sharply-shaped build is much more high fashion than it is hoops!
Arriving in new 'Clay' and 'Egret' colourways, the TURBOWPN features a high-cut cowhide leather upper with an even higher tongue that's borrowed from Owens' seminal Geobasket sneaker. These tongues are equipped with equally gigantic tags that show the branding of Owens' DRKSHDW diffusion line, and the lateral quarter panel replaces standard Converse branding with a DRKSHDW star graphic. However, the TURBOWPN does retain some original Weapon flair thanks to details like a Y-bar overlay below the collar and a Converse hit on the medial quarter.
Moving to its lower half, there's a platform midsole that's nearly double the size of the original Weapon's midsole and houses a drop-in CX foam cushioning system for comfort. When previously describing the TURBOWPN's signature design language, Owens said 'When I discovered how powerful just oversizing something a little bit was, which I’ve done with a lot of my clothes, that became one of my tools.'
Expect both colourways of the Rick Owens x Converse TURBOWPN to hit the Converse and Rick Owens webstores plus select global stockists on May 3, accompanied by a co-branded hat and drawstring bag. Each pair is priced at $200.
