Saucony Give the Shadow 6000 a Premium Leather Makeover
The is enjoying its 30th anniversary this year with a number of collaborative releases, colourful themed limited editions, and OG reissues. Among the assortment is this premium release that sees the model’s usual material makeup get swapped out for a more luxurious finish.
For context, luxury wasn’t top of mind for Saucony designers when the Shadow 6000 first hit the tarmac in 1991. Originally intended to be a mile muncher, microfiber and mesh was the default option to ensure low weight and high breathability. This was paired to an innovative Ionic Cushioning System midsole, which is thick and foamy. So, while the original was all business, they've revitalised the model in recent years as a comfortable casual shoe, meaning it can now undergo some more lifestyle-friendly executions.
This version sees plush leather uppers rendered tonally, with an additional detail of fine perforations across the toe box and mid panels. This all-beige leather affair continues inside, swapping the usual textile lining for more animal hide. There is a touch of contrast right on the heel tab, perhaps suggesting the rest of the upper can develop patina and darken to the same shade of brown. This detail is complemented with a very welcome gum rubber sole.
The Saucony Shadow 6000 is available now from Allike.
