See Into the Future with the Mizuno Wave Prophecy
Despite its unconventional appearance, the Wave Prophecy definitely should be taken seriously. Its namesake Wave technology has built up quite a cachet of performance-minded runners and boundary-pushing dressers alike. The latter of which is a perfect descriptor for Mr. Sexy Robots, aka Hajime Sorayama, who with Mizuno on a teched out edition of the Wave Prophecy. While that all-silver sneaker was probably a bit too Tin Man for conventional sneakerheads, then it’s worth considering this more ‘serious’ option that still maintains some futuristic lustre.
The mostly grey colourway helps to mute the out-there design, with the tonality emphasising the different textures present. Mesh is the go-to material for performance panels that require ventilation, while midfoot TPU ribbing provides structure and support without adding excessive weight. External oversized heel counters are a well-considered ergonomic decision, providing a stable rear end for the Wave midsole to begin. This propulsive cushioning system runs the entire length of the sole, joining some forefoot foam inserts for additional impact protection. It’s all very serious.
But that very focused approach to its design clearly hasn’t put adventurous sneakerheads off, as it’s now available from Japan’s mita sneakers, a retailer not traditionally known for its performance offerings. So there clearly is a market for the Wave that’s found beyond the race track.
