Sporty Vegans Will Love The New Mercer x Vibram Racer
Vegans might be taking over the world one didactic alfalfa sprout at a time, but until now, their shoes always looked more like floppy refried beans rather than sweet treats. Well all that might be about to change with Mercer’s new Amsterdam Racer, which is certifiably made without any animal-derived ingredients.
Mercer are calling their new Onsteam upper material 'vegan leather’, which is a little like asking for an ‘almond milk’ latte or ‘pepperphony’ on your pizza. Semantics aside, the new definitely-not-made-from-a-cow upper is 100% breathable microfibre that can absorb up to eight times its own weight in water. As Mercer notes in their PR, the material – and the entire shoe for that matter – has passed the Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 class I certificate, which means that every component has been tested for ‘harmful substances and that the article is harmless in human ecological terms.’
The outsoles are supplied by Vibram, while phylon foam takes care of the cush. The styling has just enough glimpses of bygone runners to feel familiar, while the angular contours and sharp rake add a futuristic tone.
The Mercer x Vibram Racer is only available now from with several of the smaller sizes already sold out!
