Sprite and FILA Celebrate Classic Commercials with New Grant Hill 1 Colab

Basketball players in the 1990s had three distinct parts of their legacy: what they did on the hardwood, what their signature shoes looked like ... and what sponsors they repped on the silver screen. NBA Hall of Famer Grant Hill did all three of those things, starring on the hardwood with the Detroit Pistons, receiving five signature shoes from FILA and starring in several Sprite commercials. Now, two parts of Hill's history are coming together, with Sprite and FILA teaming up for a special Grant Hill 1 inspired by one of the small forward's TV spots.

In one of his earliest commercials with Sprite (seen above), Hill, wearing his Grant Hill 1, soared to the hoop for a 360 dunk and guzzled a Sprite, while an awestruck teenager attempted to replicate his moves without much success.

To bring things full-circle, FILA and Sprite updated both the commercial and Hill's first signature shoe. Atop its white leather base, the Sprite x FILA Grant Hill 1 features glistening patent leather overlays with Sprite-style blue to green ombre fades and plenty of special branding to boot, thanks to Sprite logos on the tongue and heel. Sprite and FILA also produced a pair of matching shorts. As far as the commercial goes? You can see for yourself above, but the boy from the first commercial has grown up and is now throwing down dunks of his own ... though his youthful athleticism is no match for Hill's veteran guile!
