Tackle the Elements In Style with the Comme des Garçons x New Balance 57/40 GORE-TEX

Comme des Garçons and New Balance have teamed up for an elevated take on the 57/40 that's dressed in all black, utilises subtle branding and features multiple weather-resistant materials. The style was first teased in January alongside two New Balance 574s from the eYe Comme des Garçons Junya Wantanabe Man line, but a release date for — and a better look at — the murky style has been provided thanks to Dover Street Market.

Inspired by the iconic New Balance 574, the 57/40's swath of overlays and double-stacked midsole are usually used as a canvas for bright and bold colours. Not here, however. CdG has dressed the entirety of the sneaker in black and swapped out its standard mesh base for a rugged ripstop. Suede appears on the overlays and midfoot's large N logo, and the entire assemblage is lined with waterproof GORE-TEX material. Finishing touches are provided by hi-vis reflective trim, a debossed GORE-TEX hit on the lateral heel and co-branded tongue badges/insoles that supply the shoe's only diversions from its monochromatic palette.

Expect the Comme des Garçons x New Balance 57/40 to release via Dover Street Market on October 1, clocking $365.
