Ali is a model, activist, creative director, film director, and the co-founder of France’s first modest fashion platform, Galeries Zarafet. For her debut collaboration with adidas, Ali says she wanted the project ‘to be relatable to all groups of girls’, and the design of both models reflects this versatility. The first is the Megaride, which has been altered to create the classic Mary Jane style replete with an open top and Velcro strap. The metallic and grey combination makes it both sleek and timeless, and Ali’s name appears on the strap for a personalised touch. Over on the Adistar Pose, the top of the Cushion model has been lopped off in favour of a Mary Jane style. Sticking to the ballet theme, the laces have a ribbon-like quality that mimics the smooth ribbons typically used on pointe shoes. Both models fit right into the ballet-shoe-esque trend that’s hitting fashion circles at the moment, while also maintaining their own unique take. As adidas have stated, the collaboration is ‘where ballet elegance meets modern streetwear’.
