Launch Details: Tekken 8 x Nike Air Foamposite One 'Jin Kazama'
Heat surrounding the iconic is once again rising, with Nike a retro of the ‘Galaxy’ colourway over a decade after its riot-ridden release in 2012. It’s not just a legendary re-release fanning the flames either, as the model also looks like it’s getting a remix in time for the Olympic Games in Paris – the monochromatic colourway replete with CDG’s patented stylings.
The latest Air Foamposite to enter the ring is one of the more unexpected collaborations of 2024 so far, with Nike teaming up with Namco for the Tekken 8 x Nike Air Foamposite. Inspired by the character Kazuya Mishima, the design features an eye-catching iridescent finish on the uppers and croc-skin overlays paying homage to the jacket of Kazuya. Elsewhere, Tekken 8 iconography emblazons the tongues and insoles, while Mishima’s signature ‘Fist’ move is highlighted on the outsole (visible because of the translucent rubber).
One of the most beloved video game franchises of all time, Tekken originally debuted in arcades in 1994, followed by a PlayStation launch in 1995. Developed by Namco and created by Seiichi Ishii, who also worked on the early Virtua Fighter games, Tekken revolutionised the fighting game genre by introducing 3D fighting environments, which was a significant shift from the primarily 2D fighting games of that era. In terms of the storyline, the main events in the game usually revolved around the notorious King of the Iron Fist Tournament, where fighters around the world compete.
The Tekken 8 x Nike Air Foamposite is expected to launch sometime in September. While waiting, make sure to our two-part series on the all-time greatest video game-inspired sneakers!
