The 24karats x mita sneakers x Mizuno Contender Drops Cash for Beef ‘n’ Broccoli
There’s a brash irreverence about this new x x Contender three-way collaboration. Its combination of dollar bill graphics printed onto its major panels faces stiff comparisons to the legendary ‘FLOM’ Dunk, while the ‘Beef ‘n’ Broccoli’ colourway of brown and green is a certified Stateside classic. So, three Japanese brands have distilled American culture into their currency and homogenised takeaway food, and interpreted it all back onto a mid-90s running shoe. According to the collaborators, it’s all inspired by ‘dance culture’, which is very much open to interpretation.
The Mizuno Contender first released in 1995, and its layered design provides plenty of real estate for 24karats and mita sneakers to apply their unconventional design cues. There are a few interesting material choices too: ripstop nylon provides the base for the aforementioned dollar bill graphics, while the brown and tan sections are some remarkably smooth suede. Tying it together is the olive lining and Mizuno logos that add a third somewhat tonal touch to the colourway. Perhaps the white midsole and olive outsole pairing can be interpreted as showing restraint, because there is certainly a lot going on.
The 24karats x mita sneakers x Mizuno Contender is available now directly from mita sneakers.
