The Black and Red New Balance 550 Has Arrived
are going full steam ahead with the revival of their OG basketball model the 550, and we’ve just received images of another edition that’s a slight change to what they’ve put out so far.
The New Balance 550 made its debut last year through an ultra-tasteful collaboration with New York brand , whose founder Teddy Santis dug through the NB archives and pulled out the silhouette that originally hit shelves way back in 1989. With little to no information on the shoe, they had to build it from scratch, and it was well worth it because the 550 quickly became one of the defining shoes of 2020. Fast forwarding to 2021 and we’ve been blessed with two on-top of the sought-after linkup, and New Balance aren’t stopping there! A Black/Red version has just hit shelves.
Unlike the slew of releases so far, which have all boasted an upper constructed of solely leather, this bad boy opts for a mostly-nubuck construction. Black sets the tone and covers the whole upper with subtle hits of red on the branding, and grey hits towards the rear. Oozing the 80s vibe is the specialised tongue label and white midsole down below.
The Black/Red New Balance 550 has already dropped via NB’s webstore in Japan. No word has surfaced of a wider release, but we’ll be keeping you updated.
