The Future of Nike Air is Here: New Air Max Silhouettes Revealed!
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the iconic , have unveiled four unique Air-infused creations that nod to the past and hero the future. Featuring the all-new Air Max 2090, Air Max 90 FlyEase, Air Max Verona, and a vibrant take on 2020’s AM90, the contemporary capsule reinterprets classic elements of the silhouette for a new generation of Air aficionados.
With debut colourways themed on the future of transportation – an ode to the OG AM90’s Italian-sports-cars inspirations – the Air Max 2090 is set to be a major driving force for progression in Nike’s lifestyle lineup. Mixing in a range of familiar AM90 elements, seasoned heads will appreciate the throwback mudguard, heel logo, and cassette feature around the Air unit. Meanwhile, the tech and aesthetic upgrades are headlined with a 200-per-cent-larger Air unit and a reimagined upper, where the most supportive materials are completely opaque, and the least supportive (and lighter weight) materials are see-through.
Marking Air Max’s first foray into FlyEase technology, the Air Max 90 FlyEase is the second silhouette in the capsule. As the name suggests, it has been designed with ease of wear in mind, allowing you to slip in and out quickly, and without fuss. With its unmistakable AM90 vibes, the sneaker is constructed with a flexible and collapsible heel, allowing for smooth entry. The function then snaps back into place to secure your foot for solid lockdown.
‘It’s not often you get a second shot at taking another swing at trying to do something even better,’ says designer Tinker Hatfield, regarding the Air Max 90 FlyEase.
‘We wanted to respect both sides of this equation, which is to do something fresh and new and important with retro design – an older design – and not change it too much.’
The third silhouette, the Air Max Verona, breathes new life into Nike’s ever-growing women’s lineup, paying homage to the game-changing Air Verona from 1992. Fast forward nearly 30 years, the radical new model nods to Nike’s first-ever women’s-exclusive shoe, delivering acquainted Air Max style with a female focus. Borrowing elements of the Air Max 90’s tooling, Beaverton have lifted and exaggerated the heel for a head-turning new look. When it comes to the Air, comfort is queen, with an Air Max 200 unit displayed in a window that’s 200 per cent larger than traditional big-bubbled beauties of the past.
Last but not least, an Air Max 90 celebration wouldn’t be complete without an electrifying new colourway, and this ‘Volt’ rendition delivers just that. Staying true to the much-loved OG colour-blocking, the 2020 build packs plenty of nostalgia, with a sprinkling of modern tweaks. A revamped toe box shape accompanies a restructured mudguard, while the acquainted side Swoosh throws back to the very first drop back in 1990. With the women’s sizes already available, guys can look forward to a jolt of this ‘Volt’ in the coming weeks.
Kicking off festivities, the Nike Air Max Verona releases globally on February 15, with additional colourways releasing on March 5. The Air Max 90 FlyEase follows on March 9 in adult and children sizing, while the Air Max 2090 debuts on March 26.
