The Nike Air Max 95 GS Pays Homage to New York’s Yellow Taxis
The is preparing to pay homage to New York’s famous yellow taxis, with official images revealing a vibrant yellow design that features minor touches of black for contrast. The GS release also boasts NYC callouts on the lateral heels and the insoles, just in case there was any doubt about the true inspiration behind the eye-catching colourway.
The iconic design of the Air Max 95 goes all the way back to a rainy day in Beaverton during the early 1990s. Nike designer Sergio Lozano was staring out of his office window in search of inspiration, when the inclement weather prompted him to imagine the falling rain eroding the landscape to unearth the strata below. That concept of previously hidden layers resonated once more when Sergio later considered the anatomy of a foot – which features similarly layered muscle fibres and flesh under the skin. The combination of those two design cues helps to explain the famous gradient panels that dominate the AM95’s signature upper.
This bright yellow build of the Air Max 95 is expected to hit stores very soon, so keep a close eye on Nike and selected Swoosh stockists. While those with big feet will be keeping their fingers crossed for a wider release.
