The Nike Air Max 97 Gets a Tonal Green Makeover

Official images have popped up of a  Nike  Air Max 97 in a neat tonal green colour scheme. Set to arrive just in time for those approaching Fall in the northern hemisphere, this colourway makes full use of the AM97’s signature wavy upper to throw multiple shades of green across the shoe. The finished product makes it somewhat easier being green. Wink wink.

Often believed to be modelled on the design of a Japanese bullet train – hence the  ‘Silver Bullet’ nickname given to the OG colourway – the Air Max 97 was actually inspired by ripples of water in a pond. And that unmistakable upper has since released in a steady stream of colourways since its late-90s debut, including the recent  ‘South Beach’ scheme, and a  coral cork edition.

As for that ‘Silver Bullet’ colourway, it was actually based on bicycle design, and forged a particularly strong connection with Italy’s burgeoning sneaker scene of that time. You can read all about that story here.
