The Nike Dunk Low Next Nature is a Decades-Old Design Made Better
‘ sustainability push has been underlined by the use of recycled materials either sourced from old shoes that have been ground down, or scraps and cutoffs from the factory floor. Ultimately, the goal is to reduce useful materials hitting landfill before they’ve had a chance to become shoes.
Some concepts are more out-there than others. The collection has demonstrated the pinnacle of experimental design with consideration made for the future of the environment. The is currently proving high performance can be low impact. However, Nike are also showing that decades-old designs can be made better using the ‘Made To Zero’ ethos. Exhibit A, B and C: three new colourways of the Next Nature.
These Dunks look exactly the same as their standard counterparts, but a closer eye reveals their Next Nature. The leather panels are all there, but now use a higher percentage of recycled materials, though it may not appear visually obvious. Looking a bit further down in the midsole and outsole confirms the recycled rubber content, evident by the speckle in the latter component. Elsewhere, Nike’s Swoosh ‘pinwheel’ stamped on the insole confirms their Next Nature status.
The Nike Dunk Low Next Nature will release in ‘Black’, ‘Sail’ and ‘Pale Coral’ options on November 3 directly from Nike.
