The Nike Waffle One Gets Electrified in Green
The is preparing to be electrified in green, the vibrant scheme giving Beaverton’s new model an eye-catching look. Highlighted with ‘Electric Green’ across most of the upper and the signature heel unit, the design gets contrast from careful additions of black, white, and what looks like a touch of orange.
The Waffle One represents the latest chapter in Nike’s long-term love affair with waffle sole technology, and its unique aesthetic. In the early 1970s, Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman ‘borrowed’ the family waffle iron from his kitchen so he could experiment with new tread patterns that would improve grip on the University of Oregon athletics track where he coached the running team. Bowerman’s tireless quest for innovation became a key driver behind Nike’s eventual ascension into the upper echelons of the sportswear industry. Original pairs of Bowerman’s handmade waffle-soled runners now fetch via auction houses these days.
Thankfully for you, this latest waffle-soled silhouette is more in the price range of the average sneakerhead. And pairs of this Waffle One ‘Electric Green’ are expected to hit Nike and selected Swoosh stockists soon.
