The Nike Waffle One Grabs a Kaleidoscope of Colours
The has grabbed a kaleidoscope of colours for its next release, mixing hues of pink, orange, blue and yellow for a super vibrant addition to your rotation. Not for the faint-hearted, this loud scheme lands on the latest chapter in Beaverton’s long-term love affair with waffle sole technology, and its unique aesthetic.
The famous story goes that, back in the early 1970s, Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman ‘borrowed’ the waffle iron from his family kitchen and took it out to the shed to help experiment with new tread patterns that would improve grip on the University of Oregon athletics track where he coached the track team. Bowerman’s tireless quest for innovation – plus his strong connection to athletic pursuits – became a key driver behind Nike’s eventual ascension into the upper echelons of the sportswear industry. Original pairs of Bowerman’s handmade waffle-soled runners attract quite a via auction houses these days.
Thankfully, this super colourful rendition of the Waffle One will presumably fit within the average sneakerhead’s budget. Pairs are expected to hit Nike and selected Swoosh stockists soon.
