The OG ASICS GEL-Lyte III Still Generates Hype, 30 Years On
The split-tongued, GEL-cushioned represented the pinnacle of the Japanese company’s footwear prowess upon its introduction in 1989. Jam-packed with unique design cues, the inimitable teal and neon colourway has often been referenced by other sneakers, but never perfectly replicated.
A number of years since its last OG reissue, ASICS are bringing back Shigeyuki Mitsui’s distinct runner turned sneakerhead favourite – perhaps for the last time. True to spec, the smooth nylon toe box and tongue are met by lightweight green microfibre, and structured by leather stripes. The tri-density midsole remains highlighted by shades of white, grey and green.
Given the rumoured shelving of the OG colourway after this retro run, it’s best to not take this release lightly. Get down to Hype DC doors or their right now to procure this GL3, before they’re gone – forever…
