The WTAPS x New Balance 990v2 Will Release Globally
Japanese streetwear label hold considerable cachet in the sneaker world, thanks to a with many major brands. Their latest cooperation with the is yet another low-key heater that has been met with high hype and RRP – to which ravenous JPN-based sneakerheads instantly snapped up at the local release. For global fans, the wait for the wider drop is almost over. In fact, it’s coming within days.
Given how colourful many New Balance collaborations have been lately, it’s rather audacious of WTAPS to go back to grey for their second colab with the brand, even after opting for colour with their inaugural 992 effort. However, like so many grey NBs, it’s never just a flatly presented sneaker. Texture is the key for this 990v2, and WTAPS head honco Tet clearly respects the palette profile that’s defined the partner brand. There are multiple shades of grey on show, and each is presented with a slightly different texture. Observe the very fine nubuck paired to mesh, plus the pebbled leather surface of the tongue and quarter overlays – a subtle nod to the NB 997. Even the reflective N logos and heel tabs – the latter displaying WTAPS embroidery instead of ‘USA’ – are technically grey.
The WTAPS x New Balance 990v2 releases directly from New Balance on September 3. Good luck.
