This adidas Stan Smith is ‘Made To Be Remade’
Circular fashion is centred on the concept of redesigning products to give them a second life. Once the usefulness of its current form is exhausted, it can then be remade and worn again. It’s an ongoing challenge, especially in the footwear industry, as worn-out sneakers are often not conducive to being recycled or reused. However, companies like adidas are aiming to counter that and close the loop on their most popular products, ensuring that they create less impact on the environment once the end of the lifespan is reached.
The next sneaker they’re doing that with is the classic tennis shoe, which has been manufactured under the ‘Made To Be Remade’ program. This means they go through the Futurecraft Loop design ethos, which prioritises the ability of the materials to be reground and reused to remake new sneakers. What adidas consider as a pathway to achieving this is using recycled TPU knit material, which is easy to craft and shape while also being strong and durable. Minimal welded panels and reinforced stitching also ensure extra longevity, which ultimately is the goal of a sustainable sneaker. A green QR code can be found on the tongue labels, helping trace the journey of these Stans, while also recalling the OG colourway.
The Stan Smith ‘Made To Be Remade’ is available now, exclusively to adidas Creators Club members via the adidas webstore.
